In order to solve a rational equation the first step in the process is to find the least common denominator of all the fractions in the equation. The second step is to multiply the terms with the least common denominator to eliminate the fractions. The third step is to simplify the terms. The fourth step is to solve the equation. The fifth step is to check the solution to make sure that the solution does not make the fraction undefined. These steps are not able to be reordered or eliminated. They are actually all necessary steps to completing the solving process of the equation. If steps were replaced in this sequence the data wouldn’t be consistent with the correct answer.
